Many companies have their own company health department or work with a company health provider. Their responsibility is to assess the overall company environment from a safety and health perspective and risks associated with certain jobs – for example, if somebody is required to work with chemicals, moving heavy objects or even the ergonomic risks of extensive work at a computer. The department may also do medicals for new starters, medical check-ups for those working in high risk areas and be in contact with people off on long term sick and help in their rehabilitation back into the work place. Company health is an entirely private area funded by the company themselves.
If you have any concerns about the environment you work in, you should first talk to your employer or the health department. If they do not take appropriate action, contact your union (if you are a member) or local kommun for further advice.
