Palliative Care

Support exists to make a patient’s last months, weeks or days as comfortable as possible. A doctor will inform the clinic (palliativ vård) that no more medical care is possible. The clinic then arranges support for the patient either at home or elsewhere. They provide both medical assistance to deal with pain relief and other symptoms and psychiatric assistance to help deal with the situation, if required. This may include setting targets for things the patient wants to do to achieve closure and even support in doing this – for example, visiting a place of special importance to them.
