Your GP should be the main point of contact for non-emergency sickness or injury.
Once your personal number has been issued, you should also receive a note from your local medical centre (Vårdcentral), giving you your GP’s (husläkare) name and how they can be contacted.
If you do not receive something automatically, you need to contact your regional county council (Landsting) to find out where your closest Vårdcentral is. While the sites are mainly in Swedish, there is a little English information around the place (often well hidden through Swedish links).
However, with only a little Swedish knowledge, you may be able to make use of the site and find a phone number for your local clinic.
hälsa - health
vård - clinic
sök vård - look for nearest clinic
avgift - fees
rådgivning - telephone numbers for advice or information
Some sites also allow on-line booking of appointments, information about other medical services and general health articles.
