Women´s Business Link, b-linkk launches in Karlstad tonight

Women´s Business Link Karlstad, b-linkk, is a new women’s business network launching tonight in Karlstad. This independent business network’s main objective is to support, develop and promote members and business in general.

– There has long been a need for this type of network and we have now decided to make it happen, says Bibbi Evermark, the interims board’s president.

On May 14 Karlstad municipality invited women running a business to a meeting to determine the level of interest and inform them of their plans to start a business network especially for women.

Anyone who has already read my last post on Networks for Professional Women may have noted that there is as yet no network mentioned in the area. Consequently there was no shortage of interest, so much so that there is a waiting list for the launch tonight. Their goal is to have 500 members in the network and judging by the interest shown so far it shouldn’t be too much of a challenge to reach this target.

Interested women have been coming out of the woodwork the last few days.

– When it comes to business it is always important to have good contacts, information and knowledge of the society we live in. To be where it is happening and help form opinion is our intention, says Barbro Färnström, Business Area Manager at the Mångfaldscentrum (Diversity Center) in Karlstad.
Lotta Karnlind, Mångfaldscentrum, says Karlstad has been missing a business network for women. Most other municipalities in the region have successful networks for women, Majorskorna in Sunne and Älvorna i Forshaga, just to name a couple.

Many of those running a business are solo, that is to say they run the business on their own.

– They often don’t have anyone to discuss things with. Women´s Business Link will gather an enormous competence. They are also close to finishing their website where there will be a market place for businesses to contact each other. I say businesses because it will be open to all businesses, not just women, says Bibbi Evermark.

We can expect to hear a lot from b-linkk in the next few years.

– We plan on organizing conferences and meeting politicians to discuss important issues regarding small business. Vi kommer att anordna konferenser och vi skall möta politikerna i viktiga företagsfrågor. Furthermore we plan on being a consultative body, says Barbro Färnström.

And tonight, November 4th will be the launch of b-linkk at Forum in Karlstad.

– We had hoped that Minister for Enterprise and Energy, Maud Olofsson would participate but she was previously engaged. She has however promised to attend one of our future meetings, says Lotta Karnlind.

The annual fee for network members is 600 sek and b-linkk intends to work in close cooperation with other networks for women in business in the region.

One of the network members is none other than American Antoinette McIntyre Andersson. Well done girls and wishing you much success in the future – I bet you will have a fantastic launch night tonight!
